Trump's Truth Social to Recruit Influencers Before Suspected Launch

Former President Trump has started to recruit popular social media influencers before the expected launch date of his new conservative social media app. In the secretive e-mails sent out to influencers, a Truth Social representative named "Ana" asks users to reserve their preferred usernames before the application is launched to the public. The e-mail showed no affiliation to Donald Trump and only contained a dead-end phone number that was registered in Palm Beach close to where the former president currently lives.     The Digital News Report 2021 published by Reuters Institute shows an increase in the usage of smartphone and news applications compared to the decline of traditional forms of media such as television and newsprint. Despite the increase in smartphone usage, especially for news applications, there has become a recent divide involving news and politics that's turning previous consumers away from news on social media and all together (Newman 2021). With political players like former President Donald J. Trump entering the social media game with Truth Social, do you believe that the divide will become greater as more politically-driven social media come into existence?
